The Iron Grate
As breezes grow and winds begin,
A father’s love turns saint from sin,
Engulfed in longing, pain, and lore,
Cry not, father, when I am no more.
Life’s flame holds hope, ever bright,
Yet in my heart, colors take flight,
Feelings now, seem out of place,
My soul’s canvas lacks any trace.
I see fathers scold, without a care,
Life’s balance seems so rare,
Trapped in a cage, fierce and tight,
A ball soaring, taking its flight.
Bells toll, reaching the blue,
Perhaps the heavens hear my rue,
Wishing to leave this painful strand,
In the shadow of death’s cold hand.
Surrounded by iron, you seem confined,
A prisoner, in body and mind,
A lone candle lights your stone,
Silence, but for the dogs’ lone moan.
Between two worlds, my thoughts do skim,
In the night, for your guidance I hymn,
Hoping in heaven, our souls will twine,
Oh father, my love, forever thine!
